WHY CHOOSE LIFT'S INJURY PREVENTION PROGRAM?
We want to keep athletes on the field competing and playing to the best of their ability, while continuing to improve their skills. While no injury is 100% preventable, proper preparation can reduce the risk of injury but also reduce the severity if an injury were to happen which means less time needed before a full return to play.
What is Prehab?
Prehabilitation is just exercises that you perform before getting an injury. They are typically used to work on specific weakness and lack of mobility in the body to reduce the risk of injury while playing as well as improve overall performance.
For example hamstring tightness and weakness can increase the risk of a strain or torn muscle and can decrease your ability to decelerate quickly and have negative effects on sprinting performance.
A prehab routine should include a series of mobility exercises to lengthen tight muscles and improve range of motion to a joint as well as strength exercises to stabilize and protect joints and muscles. Our full generalized prehab routine is designed with soccer in mind to prep athletes for the specific demands of soccer.
To further the effectiveness of a prehab routine, it should be tailored to each individual since not every one has the same risk factors. This is done through our MPR, which is a full body screening that looks at an individuals head to toe tightness, weakness, and movement patterns. The findings from the MPR are then used to create a prehab program to mitigate the individuals risk factors. For example if you don’t have tight hip flexors you don’t have to spend a tone of time stretching them!
Why is Prehab Important?
Injury rates in youth soccer are higher than in many other contact/collision sports and have greater relative numbers in younger, preadolescent players. With regards to musculoskeletal injuries, young females tend to suffer more knee injuries, and young males suffer more ankle injuries. LIFT offers services to combat and prevent these injuries from occurring.
In combination with our sport specific MPR assessment, our activation prehab routine and offering athlete's physiotherapy assessments we are being proactive with preventing injuries from occurring and getting injuries and imbalances assessed early for injury prevention. We believe that we can help to bring that professionalism to grass roots.
Clubs like the Vancouver Whitecaps, Arsenal and beyond have physiotherapists, strength and conditioning coaches, performance coaches all staffed to help their athletes prevent injuries from happening.
"I myself was a collegiate athlete playing in Texas and Oklahoma and also had the privilege of having physiotherapists there to help, so I know the value of this first hand. I truly believe that the grass roots clubs can still offer that level of service to their athletes as It shares the 'player first' approach and not only adds value to your club but it adds value to the players, coaches and parents and overall membership in receiving such details to their child's health and safety, participation on the field, and longevity in the game," Shannon Day, Owner of LIFT Fitness & Physiotherapy.
